Paul Orville Brummett Sr.
February 2, 1914 - October 21, 2008
Paul Orville Brummett Sr., 94, Galveston, formerly
of New Castle, went to his heavenly home at 4:52 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21,
2008, at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo, due to complications
from a stroke. He was born Feb. 2, 1914, in Burnsides, Ky., to Vernon
and Dora (Carnes) Brummett. He lived most of his life in New Castle,
where he met and married Althea (Baugher) Brummett at First Baptist
Church on May 16, 1935. Their love and commitment to each other served
as a shining example to all their family and friends.
Orville was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for many years,
where he and Althea both sang in the choir. Also, he sang in The
Proclamations Quartet, while she played the piano. Praising God with
their music was an important part of their lives. On Orville and
Althea’s 50th anniversary, they renewed their marriage vows. On their
70th anniversary, they celebrated by moving to Galveston, where they
enjoyed many special times shared with family and new friends. Althea
passed away July 13, 2006.
Orville will long be remembered for his sunny smiles and fun-loving
ways. He brought joy to everyone around him. When he retired from
Chrysler at New Castle after 25 years, he became an avid golfer until
the age of 90. During that time, he was proud of two holes-in-one. He
was a Gold Star member of the Masonic Lodge and considered every Mason
he met his brother. Orville graduated from New Castle High School in
1932.
He is survived by his son, Paul and Karel Brummett, Mebane, N.C.;
daughter, Anita and Joe Norris, Galveston; grandchildren, Kathy (Norris)
and husband Brett Dauenhauer, Kokomo, Kristy (Norris) and husband Mark
Miller, Galveston, Jerry Norris, Galveston, Kirk and Tamra Brummett,
Sarasota, Fla., and Jeff Brummett, Greensboro, N.C.;
great-granddaughters, Erika and Emily Dauenhauer, Devin Miller, Tiffany
Miller, Meagan and husband Mathew O’Donnell, Ashley Norris and Logan
Brummett; a dear friend and golfing buddy, Roger Rains; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Althea; brother, Norman;
and two brothers and a sister that died at an early age.
Private services will be held in New Castle with friends and family,
with Pastor Jack Hannum officiating. Burial will be in South Mound
Cemetery, New Castle. No public visitation is planned.
