Barbara May McCloskey, 82, of Galveston, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at her home in Galveston.  She was born February 22, 1935 in Howard County to William and Helen (Cedars) Beckom.   She married Allen McCloskey on February 19, 1966 in Young America at the Center UB Church and he survives.

Barbara graduated from Western High School in 1953.  She worked as secretary for Continental Steel in Kokomo until late 1966.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Center Chapter, #108.  She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, Knit Club, the Lewis Cass Band Boosters, also was on the uniform committee for the band boosters.  Barbara served on the Galveston Town Council, the Election Board and played with the Hoosier String Players.  She was a member the TipWa Antique Tractor and Engine Club Ladies Auxiliary, and served as den mother for the Boy Scouts and was an assistant Girl Scout leader.  She was also a member of the Pioneer Power of North Central Indiana and Mid-America Threshing and Antique Association.   Her hobbies included doll collecting, knitting, crocheting, doll making, tractor shows, card club, puzzles and enjoyed helping with stained glass, making angels and nativities and she was especially known for her raspberry pies and jelly.  Barbara loved to go to “anything” and loved watching her grandkids.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving family include her husband, Allen McCloskey, Galveston; her children, Joel (Pam) Hargis, FL; Dean (Sheila) McCloskey, Galveston and Judy McCloskey, Galveston.  Her grandchildren, Jacqueline and Neal Hargis; Courtney, Carley and Cole McCloskey; Whitney Volz; Sydney Sofronici and Curtis and Allara Henry.  Surviving siblings include, Donald (Yvonne) Beckom, Harold (Mary) Beckom and Mary Lou Meadows.   She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Harry Hargis Jr., and brother-in-law, Ed Meadows.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 16th at the Galveston United Methodist Church, 515 S. Maple St. Galveston with Pastor Marty Pursel officiating.  Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery.  Visitation will take place from 2 – 6 p.m. Sunday also at the church with Eastern Star Services at 5:30 pm.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston has been entrusted with arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
