Carlos “Dean” Meek, 71, of Walton, passed away at 10:36 a.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo.   He was born December 1, 1945 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Don and Willa Mae (Walters) Meek.   He married Barbara Jean Harlow on September 30, 1967 in Dayton, Ohio and she preceded him in death January 16th of this year.

Dean and his wife started their life together serving in the US Air Force.  They traveled to many places including Anchorage, Alaska and Guam, setting down in Walton in 1982.  He retired from the US Air Force at a master sergeant in 1992.    Dean was a member of the American Legion Post #418 in Walton where he and Barb spent a lot of their time after work together.   He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandkids.  Dean would help anyone in need, giving the shirt off of his back if needed.

After retirement from the Air Force, Dean and Barb built Deano’s Pizzeria together in Walton.  Barb was the delivery driver until her illness made it impossible for her to continue.   Dean and Barb were very active in their community of Walton.  They will both be sadly missed by all who knew them.

Dean is survived by his three children William Joseph Meek, Peru, IN; Jonathan Dean Meek, Walton, IN; and Christina Helene (Meek) and her husband Adam Whitney, Walton, IN.  He had eight grandchildren, Jacob, Jesse, Joshua, William Joseph Meek Jr., Christian Meek, Brodrick Meek, Logan Whitney, Brooke Whitney and three great grandchildren.  He is also survived by siblings, Donald (Diane) Meek, Kenneth Meek, Maudi (Joe) Fanti, Christine Tyson, and Jewel Harwood.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barb, daughter, Donna Sue Meek and one brother Devon Meek.

Visitation will be held from 2 – 5 p.m. Saturday, June 24th at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Immediately following services a celebration will be held at the Walton American Legion Post #418 in Walton.  Dean’s ashes will be interred at a later date in Dayton, Ohio.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston assisted her family with arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
