Cleo O. Metcalf, 79, of Galveston, took the hand offered by God and departed this earth in the comfort of his home Tuesday, January 31st in the early morning hours.

Cleo “Ott” to many, never met a stranger and leaves behind many friends.  Cleo arrived on Nov. 22, 1937 and was the sixth child of 10 children born to Harry and Mildred Metcalf.  He was a graduate of Northwestern High School and served in the US Army Reserves, 5th Army Division.  He retired from Chrysler in 1987 after 30 years of service.  After retirement he would babysit for his grandson Cory until he started school.  They shared many memorable times together.  Cleo served on the Galveston Park Board and spent many hours puttering around the park or working on the community center which he took great pride in.  He had also volunteered at the Grissom Air Museum.  Cleo was a member of Twisters, Sisters and Misters Wool Spinning club.  He attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kokomo and was a member of the American Legion.  Cleo did not like staying idle very long and if he wasn’t tinkering with something in his garage, you would find him on the golf cart tooling around town.  He also helped log information for the “Find A Grave” website.

Cleo is survived by his wife Beverly, daughter, Rene and husband Tim Weaver, grandson Cory and his wife Lindsey Weaver, great granddaughter, Gabriella Weaver, sisters, Dorothy (Leonard) Hartman, Wilma (P.A.)
