Delores “Joella” Beck, 79, of Galveston, went home to be with the Lord at 4:58 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. She was born February 28, 1938 in Hammond, Indiana to Alvin and Florence (Marter) Buettner. She married Robert “Bob” Beck on January 25, 1958 in Logansport and he survives.
Joella retired from the US Postal service as Postmaster at Young America, Indiana. She worked for the postal service for 41 ½ years. Her first job was working for St. Joseph Hospital in Logansport in Dietary. She also worked for A.S.C.S. in Logansport for 4 ½ years and the Young America Café. She was a 1956 graduate of Young America High School and a 50-year member of the Pythian Sisters. Joella served as District Deputy and Grand Trustee for the Pythian Sisters, District 5 in Indiana. She also started the Bunko Club of Young America with her friends.
Surviving family include her husband, Robert “Bob” Beck, Galveston; daughters, Terri Robertson, Galveston and Linda (Tim) Bruner, Walton; son, Jim Buettner, Galveston and grandchildren, Chad (Vanessa) Robertson and Caleb (Micah) Bruner; great grandchildren, Kendall, Jacob, Jude, Mollie and Brittyn. Joella is also survived by a special friend, Sandy Henry. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Barb Buettner.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 10th at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Marty Pursel officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday, October 9th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Renal Research.
