Dr. C. George Brockus

August 20, 1931 ~ April 23, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Dr. C. George Brockus, 85, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away April 23, 2017.  He was born in Galveston August 20, 1931 to Charles and Harriet Brockus.  George married Alice Saylor and had a loving relationship for 43 years until her passing.  He later married Arlene Netzhammer in 2015 and she survives.

George was a rocket scientist.  He participated in the design of a satellite tracking ground station for Western Development Lab of Ford Philco in Palo Alto California.  He moved to Houston in 1962 with that company to help in the design and construction of the manned spacecraft center.  He then joined Space Technology Lab to target ICBM’s for the Minute Man II missile defense system.  George was also instrumental working with the internal guidance and navigation system for the lunar landing.

George obtained his doctorate in system science automatic feedback control systems and later taught systems engineering for 20 years at the U.S. Naval Academy.

He is survived by his wife Arlene Netzhammer Brockus of Palm Harbor, FL, adopted children, John Netzhammer ,  Lori Aitken, and Allison Kolar; nieces Laura Adams and Ann Evans and nephew Ross Townsley.

Burial of his ashes will take place Wednesday, June 7th at the Galveston Cemetery in Galveston, Indiana.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston assisted with local arrangements.   George will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
