Frank R. Mittica, 91, of Kokomo, went home to be with the Lord at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Blair Ridge Health Campus in Peru. He was born September 11, 1926 in Logansport to Rocco and Maria (Coluccio) Mittica. He married Phyllis “Jean” Owens on July 26, 1947 in Logansport. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2008.
Frank graduated from Logansport High School in 1944. He joined the Navy after High School to serve his country. He retired from Delco Electronics as an Electrician with 20 years service.
Frank was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1152 in Kokomo and the American Legion Post #418 in Walton. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Warsaw, Indiana. After retirement he volunteered for the American Red Cross and was awarded Volunteer of the year one year. He also served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity.
Frank was a great husband, father and grandfather. He loved helping people.
Surviving family include his children, Pam and Rick Day, Peru; and James F. Mittica, Warsaw. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Todd Stevens, Rocco (Lisa) Valadez, Nicholas (Mindi) Valadez, Ashley (Jason) Lemler, and Zach (Ashley) Sainer, his great grandchildren, Lily, Gabe, Rafe, Samuel, Christopher, Wyatt, Rylan, Kloe, Peyton, Jay and Bailey. Surviving siblings include his two sisters, Mary Melton, Rochester, Angie Schroeder, Logansport and one brother Dominic Mittica, Logansport. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean, sister, Josephine Graybeal and brother Nicholas Mittica.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5th at St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 W. 5th Street, Peru, Indiana with Father Adam Mauman officiating. Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery, Galveston, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 2 – 6 p.m. Sunday, December 3rd at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.
