Harriet Jane (Weaver) Coffey

Harriet Jane Coffey, 93, Galveston, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Friday, May 19th, 2017 at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo.   She was born November 10, 1923 in Galveston to the late L.L. and Bernice (Dagget) Weaver.   She married Jack O’Neal Coffey of Greencastle, Indiana June 30, 1947 at the Chapel in the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  He preceded her in death February 12, 2015.

Harriet attended the Galveston public schools and graduated in 1941.  While the United States was involved in WW2, Harriet went to work in the defense industry at Haynes Stellite in Kokomo.   Harriet was known for her culinary expertise.  The odors emanating from her kitchen were a delight to smell, and to eat her servings were a memorable experience.  She enjoyed cooking and everyone at her table enjoyed it more.

Harriet’s husband Jack, was transferred about the country by his employer and she lived in Seattle, WA; Wilmington, DE; Indianapolis, IN; Chicago, IL; and Saratoga, CA.  After his retirement, they lived in Lake of the Ozarks, MO before returning to Galveston in 2001.

Harriet and Jack had two sons, Richard L. Coffey and Scott O. Coffey.  She was preceded in death by her parents, son Richard L. Coffey and two sisters, Polly Ann Weaver and Janet Simpson.  She is survived by her son Scott O. Coffey of Wyoming and her two grandsons, Joshua O. Coffey,  Pasadena, California and Benjamin O. Coffey, Chicago, IL.

Harriet will be cremated and her ashes will be buried on the Coffey plot at Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana.  She was lovingly cared for by her nurses at Waterford Place Health Campus, Audrey Duncan, Joan Jefferies, Carrie Pelfree, Kelly Decker Tyrel, Lori Jones, Shaquila Crites and David Wilson.  There will be no services or flowers.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston is in charge of arrangements.  www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
