Joe R Jackson

December 25, 1917 ~ December 30, 2016 (age 99) 99 Years Old

Joe R. Jackson, 99, of Galveston, also known as Grandpa Joe, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Friday, December 30th at his home in Galveston.  He was born December 25, 1917 to William Bryan and Mae M. (Eldridge) Jackson.  Joe married Mary E. Moss on September 3, 1939 in Greenwood, Indiana and she preceded him in death June 19, 1975.

Joe farmed all of his life on the family farm in Galveston.  He enjoyed supporting 4-H for over 40 years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galveston, served as a Democratic Precinct Committee Chairman and supported the Galveston Little League Park of which he donated the land.   He enjoyed woodworking, leather stamping, stained glass, gardening and running his sawmill.  People came from all over for him to cut wood from trees they brought and to visit with him.  Family was very important in Joe’s life.  He was so proud of his 5 boys and of all his grandchildren.  One of Joe’s favorite sayings was “Ill See You In The Funny Papers”

Surviving family include his five sons, Max (Laura Belle) Jackson, Lafayette, IN; Bob (Carol) Jackson, Fayetteville, N.C.; David (Jeannie) Jackson, Brunswick, GA; Dan (Connie) Jackson, Young America, IN; and Steve (Cindy) Jackson of Galveston, IN.   Twelve grandchildren also survive him, Jenny Jackson, Jeff Jackson, Susan Kile, Daphne Budreau, Scott Jackson, John Jackson, Lisa Tate, Mike Jackson, Jan Conklin, Lesley Elson, Sarah Payne, and Derek Jackson.  He was also survived by 39 great grandchildren, Brent (Kelsey) Budreau, Leah, Maria and Kendra Budreau, Zachary, Laney, Jacob, Chris, Robbie, Caleb, Precious, Matthew, Joshua, Ellie, Nathaniel and James Jackson, Brecken, Bryant and Brooke Payne, Alyssa Short, Taylor and Hannah Jackson, Natalie and Noah Kile,  Mia and Ben Conklin, Danielle Tate and Kaycee Jackson, Lexi and Leevi Jackson and Jaci and Kylee Elson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3rd at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Jesse Horner officiating.  Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery.  Friends may visit from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday, January 2nd at the Funeral Home and from 10 – 11 a.m. on Tuesday.  Memorial contribution may be given to the Galveston Vol. Fire Dept.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston are in charge of arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
