Lloyd C. Bruner

Lloyd Clayton Bruner, 94, Walton, passed away, Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home.  He was born August 21, 1923.   He was the son of Dan and Mae Bruner.  On May 16, 1947 at the Shiloh Lutheran Church parsonage he married the true love of his life, Betty Lou Leiter.

Lloyd was a 1941 graduate of Walton High School.  He worked as a fireman for the railroad and then spent over 20 years with Butz Lumber Company where he began to perfect his skills as a carpenter.  He went on to spend his final working years as a carpenter at the Grissom Air Force base where he retired in 1985. 

Lloyd was devoted to his family and the town of Walton where he lived.  He was a member of the Shiloh Lutheran church where he served as councilman and caretaker of the church and parsonage. He was a competitive bowler and participated on several leagues.  He had a passion for playing Euchre and loved pitching horseshoes with friends and family.    He enjoyed watching baseball and took pride in the Walton Little League program where he participated as a player agent and always helped to improve the facility and grounds.  He was an avid Cubs fan.

His greatest joy was working with wood.  He built his home, made picture frames, shelves and furniture.  He was known for his wooden canes that had handles patterned after a saw and finished with a penny marking the date it was made.  He showered friends, family and strangers with these hand crafted gifts as a true mark of love and friendship 

Lloyd made friends easily, never knew a stranger, was a good man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a master at wood working.

Along with wife Betty, Lloyd is survived by his children, Tim (Linda) Bruner and Judy (Terry) Casey, grandchildren Caleb (Micah) Bruner, Lauren Casey, and Conor (Brittney) Casey.  He also had 3 great grandchildren, Jude, Mollie and Brittyn Bruner. 

Lloyd is preceded in death by his siblings, Wilmer Bruner, Velma (Harold) Stigers, Florence (Pat) O’Blenis, Edith (Leonard) Widner, Eunice (Wayne) BeBee, Lowell (Wilma) Bruner, Mark (Maxine) Bruner, Max (Phyllis) Bruner, John Bruner and Marlin Bruner.

Funeral services will be held at the Shiloh Lutheran Church in Walton, Indiana starting at 2 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2018.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from noon until 2 before the service. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Lloyd’s memory to the Shiloh Lutheran Church, 404 E.
