Marvin L. Dockerty, 84, of Kokomo, passed away Thursday evening, March 2, 2017 at his home.  He was born June 7, 1932 in Marinette County, Wisconsin to James and Emma (Benham) Dockerty.   He is one of eleven children.  His family moved from Wisconsin to the Logansport area in 1941.  Marvin graduated from Logansport High School and entered the US Navy.  He served his county until December of 1955.  He also attended Purdue University.  Marvin left college to help his Kokomo family during an illness.  He served as a night manager of Fitz’s Drive In.  He was later hired by the Kokomo Police Dept. and retired as Captain in 1983.

Marvin loved boating and water sport and had a cottage at Lake Shafer in Monticello.  He also enjoyed riding snowmobiles, football, NASCAR races and especially driving his 1929 Mercedes replica show car in the Haynes Apperson Parade where he won several trophy’s.  Marvin resided in Monticello for several years working in sales for Magic Wand Midwest in Lafayette with friend Bill Chapman.  He commuted from Kokomo to Lafayette until he retired in 2010.

Surviving family include his wife Phyllis of 61 years.  His son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Mendi Dockerty, Kokomo; grandchildren, Lacy, Cameron and  Kayla, Dustin and wife Katheryn and Jessica; his great grandchildren,  Kamey, Kadey, Blair, Addison, Bentley, Jaxon and Damien; his siblings, Anna Fitz, Kokomo; Norma (Bud) Rogers, Russiaville;  James Dockerty, Kokomo;  Wayne and (Tammy) Dockerty, Marion;  Patricia Dockerty, Kokomo; and Janet. He was preceded in death by brothers, Hillis, Robert and Laurence Dockerty and sisters, Ellen Gunther , Wilma Aderman, and Patty Dockerty, brother-in-law, Dwight Fitz and sister-in-law, Lucy Dockerty.

A celebration of Marvin’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Steve Allen officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Logansport.  Visitation will be held from 10 am until time of services at 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the PAL (Police Athletic League).  The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Guardian Angel Hospice and special caregiver Rhonda Glassburn. Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston have been entrusted with arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
