Alice Ream Martin Obituary

Alice C. Ream Martin, 100, of Logansport, died at 9:45 am Friday, June 28, 2019.   She was born April 18, 1919 to Harry H. and Nancy C. (Reyburn) Wise.   She grew up on a farm near Miami.  After marring Ed Ream, they moved to a farm in Miami County where Grissom Air Force Base is now located.  They then moved to a farm in Washington Township on 600 South where they had a working dairy farm for many years.  Alice graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1938 and enrolled at Butler and IU at the age of 39 and started her teaching career.  She taught reading and English in many of the early Logansport schools, then at Washington Township and Deacon prior to finishing her career at Lewis Cass. After obtaining her Master’s Degree, she taught at IUK before retiring in 1982.

She always had an adventurous spirit that took her all over the U.S. and the world.  She even went behind the Iron Curtain and later said, “I never want to go back there again !”  She also took each of her grandchildren on a special travel journey to pass on her love for adventure.  She loved to wear leopard print and go shopping always looking for a bargain.  God has given her a strong spirit that has taken her on this 100 year adventure called life.

Alice was blessed with two daughters and a son, Kathy (Tom) Newport, Walton; Connie Hall ( Marvin Stout ), Logansport; and Michael Ream now deceased.   Surviving grandchildren include Kerrie (Dave) Morris, Troy (Cathi) Newport, Trent (Jill) Newport, Deanne Hall, Darcie (Jerry) Whitaker, Monty (Michele) Ream and Monique (Todd) Seifert.  She is also survived by several great grandchildren as well as great great grandchildren.   She is preceded in death by her parents, son Michael and husbands, Edward Ream and Don Martin.
