Betty Eileen (Scott) Weaver

Betty Eileen (Scott) Weaver, 92, of Galveston, went home to be with the Lord at 7:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2019 at her home after an extended illness.    She was born April 13, 1927 in Cass County to Orville H. and Bertha (DeMoss) Scott.   She married Frank “Jim” Weaver in Bloomington, Indiana on January 24, 1948.   Jim preceded her in death on March 14, 2001.

Betty attended Deacon School in the lower grades and later graduated from Young America High School in the class of 1945.  She was a life member of the Upper Deer Creek Church.  She was active in the church serving as Sunday School secretary in her younger years and as a children’s teacher and Superintendent in her middle years.   She worked at the Dutchess Drug store n Galveston after graduation.  She later worked at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Logansport and along side her husband Jim for Weaver Oil Company for many years.   Betty enjoyed sewing, gardening and spending many winters in Ft. Myers, Florida.   She also helped plan and attend 20 Navy reunions with husband Jim.

Surviving family include her daughter Donna J. Cross and husband Jack of Delphi, her son-in-law, Chuck Sponhauer of Marion; her grandchildren, Shawn (Robert) Kelly, Alexandria, VA; Sharla (Matthew) Wilson, Manhattan Beach, CA; Casey (Janice) Cross, St. Louis, MO; Kyle J. (Sarah) Cross, Flora, IN; her great grandchildren, Charleston, Declan and Beckett Kelly; Madeleine, Nicholas and Caroline Wilson and Cooper, Jackson and Adriann Cross.  Betty is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jerry “Mike”  (Patricia) Weaver, Galveston; sister-in-law, Carolyn Eshelman, Galveston; sister-in-law, Rebecca Weaver of Warsaw, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.   She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, daughters, Barbara Sponhauer and Melissa Weaver and siblings, Carmen Thompson, Harold Scott and R. Max Scott.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Galveston Cemetery with Pastor John Rhodes officiating.  No public visitation is planned.  Memorial contributions may be sent to the Galveston Vol. Fire Dept.
