Charles "Fred" Henry

Charles “Fred” Henry, 91, of Young America, went home to be with the Lord at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo.   He was born September 16, 1927 in Young America to Thomas H. and Elda (Fouts) Henry.  He was raised by his father and step mother Thomas and Mary Henry.    Fred married Phyllis Brower on May 11, 1947 in Howard County.   She preceded him in death May 7, 2006.

Fred farmed his entire life and was a bricklayer for many years.  He graduated from Young America High School in 1945 and was a member of the Young America Baptist Church, the Young America Lions Club and the Brick Layer’s Local #4 of Indiana and Kentucky.  He enjoyed gardening, making things, and teasing everybody he knew in a loving way.  Fred loved his family and his community and he was loved in return by all who knew him.

Surviving family include his children, Chuck (Donna) Henry, Young America; Cheryl (Les) Karnes, Galveston and Mary Jayne (Steve) Merchant of Kokomo.  He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Charles Henry, Michelle Surine, Joel Henry, Tia (Tina) Lewellen, Matt (Jenny) Lewellen, Nathan (Penny) Lewellen, Whitney (Marla) Smith, Rachel (James) Soderberg, Jodie (Matt) Buckley, Jessica Sutton, Alisha Perry and Spencer (Ally) Merchant;  thirty three great grandchildren one great great grandchild, one sister, Virginia (Bill) Moore and one sister-in-law, Nelda Lovelace.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Young America Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Spangler officiating.  Burial will follow in the Young America Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2019 at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.   Memorial contributions may be given to the Young America Vol. Fire Dept. or Young America Baptist Church.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
