Erle G. Lockhart, 75, of Logansport formerly of Walton, went home to be with the Lord at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Millers Merry Manor in Logansport. He was born April 3, 1943 in Logansport to Ralph and Opal (Burrous) Lockhart. He married Mary Jane Wagoner on March 29, 1996 and she survives.
Erle graduated from Tipton Township High School in 1961. He lived and farmed in the Walton area most of his life. He was the Charter President of Area Young Farmer’s Organization in Cass County. He also served as a FFA Officer. Erle served his country in the US Army reserves for six years. Other memberships include, Cass County Pork Producers, Indiana Pork Producers, INPAC board member, he received honors in the pork check off referendum and received Cass county conservation cooperator of the year award two different times. He was a member of the Cass county board of health for nine years and served as a campaign manager for a county prosecutor. Erle also served on the crime stopper board for thirty-three years, EMA tornado siren committee and was the head usher in his church for many years.
Surviving family include his wife, Mary Jane Lockhart, Logansport; step daughters, Jennifer (Terry) Baldwin, Rochester, IN; and Laura (Bruce) Thomson, Rochester, IN; four step grandchildren; brother, Jay Lockhart, St. Louis, MO; and sister Connie (Lockhart) Anders of Midland, MI. His parents precede him in death.
A celebration of Erle’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Andy Weil officiating. Burial will follow at Walton IOOF Cemetery with Military Honors graveside. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 7th at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.
