Harold “Sonny” Mix Sr., 82, of Galveston. Passed away at 7:03 a.m. Sunday, October 29, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo.  He was born June 21, 1935 in Heber Springs, Arkansas to Alva and Bertha (Aldridge) Mix.   He married Velda L. Sitzes on December 31, 1957 in Kokomo and she survives.

Sonny worked construction before going to work for Cuneo Press in Kokomo.  He worked for Cuneo for 19 ½ years before it closed.  He then went to work for Delco Electronics and worked for an additional 19 more years.    He owned and operated Mix’s Auto Sales in Kokomo and Galveston for many years.   He was known as the “El Camino Man”  He enjoyed working on classic cars.  He served his country in the Korean War from 1958 – 1960.

Surviving family include his wife, Velda Mix, Galveston; son, Randy Mix, Galveston; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bob Phipps, Galveston and grandson Ryan and wife Corrynn Mix of Kokomo.  He is also survived by one sister, Anita Henson of Merced, CA; nieces and nephews, Glenda and Jon Murdock, Heber Springs, AR; Robin Henson and Randy Henson of CA; brother and sister-in-law, Loren and Carol Sitzes, Kokomo and his best bud and special companion, Mouse.   He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harold “Harry” L. Mix Jr.; siblings, Freeda Whitehurst, Leo Fay Mix and half siblings, Harlas, Lilly and Hazel Mix and nephews, Ricky and Ronnie Henson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2016 at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Rev. Norm Snyder officiating.  Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery with military honors graveside.  Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Dr. Eric Tuchscherer MD for his excellent care of Sonny.  In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to the Lewis Cass Scholarship Fund.  Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
