Michael R. Taylor, 64, of Galveston, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo. He was born September 18, 1954 in Kokomo to Malcolm E. and Rolla Jean (Hayes) Taylor. He married Pamela Brown on November 1, 1975 and she survives.
Mike was a schoolteacher for Western School Corporation for the past 8 years. He retired from Chrysler Corp. with 35 years service before going back to school to earn his teaching degree. Mike was passionate about kids. He had a huge heart for teaching. He graduated from Lewis Cass High School in Walton in 1972 and from Indiana University Kokomo in 2009. He was a member of UAW # 685 in Kokomo and the Indiana State Teacher’s Association (ISTA). He and his wife Pam attended Judson Road Christian Church in Kokomo. He enjoyed his flower gardens and his trees. He was an avid softball coach and enjoyed coaching all sports.
Surviving family include his wife Pamela Taylor, Galveston; his daughters, Amber (Chad) Carver, Walton; Sarah Franklin (Seth Eller), Galveston; and Kirby (Zach) Griffith, Kokomo. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one on the way, Bailey, Avery and Riley Franklin, Maddox and Broux Carver and Brantley Griffith. Two sisters also survive him, Debbie (Gary) Broyles and Terrie (Scot) Collins. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cathy Showalter.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5th at Judson Road Christian Church with Pastor Brandon Bentch officiating. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Western’s special needs playground fund.
