Phyllis J. Salsbery, 88, Galveston, died Tuesday morning, July 23, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. She was born June 29, 1931, in Kokomo to Russel and Lula (Dowden) Gardner. She was married November 23, 1950, in Kokomo to the love of her life, Paul Salsbery, who preceded her in death on February 25, 2013.
She worked at Woodmansee/Burnett-Connor Associates Insurance for several years before her retirement in 2001. She enjoyed gardening, her golden retrievers Molly and Maggie, and playing a wicked game of euchre, where she was virtually unbeatable. She was selflessly devoted to her family and was affectionately known as Mamma by her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy (Dick) Leopold, Ann Arbor, Mich.; son, Ron (Deb) Salsbery, Lakeland, Fla.; son, Mark Salsbery, San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Sandy (Chris) Franklin, Fort Wayne; daughter, Sue (Jeff) Eads, Kokomo; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and sister, Janet Wicks, Kokomo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Mike.
