Betty E. Browning, 96, of Galveston, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Wellbrook of Kokomo. She was born November 9, 1926, in Kokomo to Leroy and Angel (Allen) Walls. She married Max Browning on December 31, 1943, and he preceded her in death May 31, 1990.
Betty worked for the Red Barn and Gas America in Galveston for over 25 years. She was always there to greet you with a smile. She was a member of the Galveston United Methodist Church for many years.
Surviving family include her son Gene Browning of South Whitley, Indiana; daughter in law, Mary Browning of Walton; and son in law, Joe Allen of Flora. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren and sister in law, Wilma Mason of Kokomo. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Roll Hodson; husband Max; daughter, Dora “Kathy” Allen; son, Bill Browning, daughter and son in law, Mary Beth and Roger Phillips; daughter in law, Dutie Browning; sisters, Ruth Hahn, Dora McGavern; brothers, Bill Walls, Bob Hodson and Don Hodson.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with her nephew, Pastor Rod Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Ever Rest Memorial Park cemetery in Logansport. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
