Bob Yockey Obituary

Bob G. Yockey, 83, of Galveston, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 27, 1939, in Hammond, Indiana, to Robert O. and Thelma (Long) Yockey, and raised on a small farm near Greentown. Bob married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Carden on August 11, 1963, in Young America. Sharon preceded him in death April 4, 2021.

Bob was employed at Chrysler but soon moved into the auto body shop business that became his lifelong vocation. He retired owning his own business, Yockey Body Shop, in Galveston in the 1990s. Bob was a devoted husband to Sharon and father to his children and grandchildren. He was thrilled to become a great grandpa recently. He enjoyed tinkering around in his shop, watching old movies with his wife, traveling in their fifth wheel camper around the country, and hosting several family holiday gatherings every year. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Surviving family include his children, Eric J. (Carrie Curtis) Yockey, Indianapolis; Matt A. (Shani McLoyd) Yockey, Lathrup Village, MI; Jeff P. (Staci) Yockey, Westfield; Vanique S. (Brad) Wallace, Indianapolis; Nikki D. (Ryan) Grube, Kokomo; and Kristi L. (Jim Anderson) Brown, Bloomington. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tahnee Cooke, Taylor Crousore, Arayleah Townsend, Samuel Wallace, Nicholas Yockey, Madeline Yockey, Adrien Wallace, and Benjamin Brown, and one great grandchild, Koji Ren Hogan, as well as his beloved giant schnauzer, Maggie. Also surviving is his younger brother, Don Yockey, Hudson. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon, one sister, Ula Lee Suter, and one brother, Dick Yockey.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 17th, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Mark Davis officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 – 6 p.m. Friday prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Kokomo Humane Society in Bob’s memory.
