David Heckert Obituary

David W. Heckert, 85, of Kokomo, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at his home.  He was born June 8, 1937, in Lenawee Co. Michigan to Wesley and Grace (Mason) Heckert.

David considered himself the typical Midwestern “farm boy” stereotype in that he learned to find satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment in hard work.  He attended Indiana Central where he majored in Music.  He loved to sing and enjoyed a wide variety of music.  During the Berlin Crisis of the 1960’s, he served in the United States Army in Germany and in Washington state.  He worked for Delco Electronics in Kokomo, and Hewlett-Packard and Blackfox Training Institute in Colorado before retiring.  He took great pleasure in making a difference in students’ lives and careers.  He enjoyed playing Santa Claus at Christmas time because he dearly loved to see joy on children’s faces.  He also had a fondness for photography, especially in nature.  And even at 85, he was proficient on the computer and loved computer games.

Surviving include former wife and mother of his children, Barbara (nee Armour) Heckert of Galveston, his children, Lisa and husband Ron Roberts of Kokomo, Stephanie Heckert of Kokomo, and Daniel and wife Anita Heckert of Woodridge, Illinois, his bonus children Manette DeCremer, Mark (Jackie) Perry, and Michelle Perry, former wife Christina (nee Daniel) Heckert, and bonus children Jody, Jon & Joel Danforth.  Surviving grandchildren include Kristin Roberts, Ronnie (Lynnelee) Roberts, Matthew (Gabrielle) Heckert, and Levi and Wesley Heckert.   He is also survived by great grandchildren, Noel, Briella, Lee, Wade, Gabe and Annabelle Roberts.   He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Donna Clough, Doris Heckert and William and wife Dorothy Heckert, and former wife Reva (nee Gardner) Heckert and bonus child Mylinda Cane.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 on July 5, 2022 at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with a memorial service immediately following.  Pastor Caylob Baldwin will officiate services.  Burial of David’s ashes will take place at a later date.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston has been entrusted with arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
