Georgia Mae (Ford) Simpson

Georgia Mae Simpson, 97, of Galveston passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023, at her home. She was born to George Milton and Verna L. Ford, April 27, 1925, on the family farm near Malone, Florida, where she remained with her family until high school graduation in 1942. She opted to accept a full scholarship to Draughan's Business College in Montgomery, Alabama, over a 4-year college program. She received her Certificate of Completion, and certification as a talented general secretary early in the year of 1943.  Upon graduation she accepted a position in the office of Base Inspector General, at  Marianna Army Air Base, Marianna, Florida. She remained in this assignment until she decided to marry her fiancé, Sgt. George R. Simpson, who was on preassignment to Aircraft Performance Engineering school at Sebring, Florida. They were married on August 24, 1944, in the Baptist Church in Sebring, Florida. She then returned to Marianna, Florida, and resigned her position in order to join her husband who was now in the Boeing Institute of Technology at Seattle, Washington.

During the ensuing years she remained a home mother, and took full responsibility of family management, a responsibility she continued until death. Her duty, and high level of demands were dictated primarily by sporadic, as well as extensive absentness of her husband on military assignment.  Over the years, Georgia bore three children at various locations as she followed her husband to each of his many duty locations around the world. She dearly loved the excitement of travel, and she cherished her family above everything else in life. A more gentle, even-tempered personable person is nonexistant; a psychological phenomenon seldom seen, and never expected. She used this gentle personality to its fullest potential, never raising her voice in anger, either to children or husband, regardless of emotional pressures. Her demeanor was always more saintly than assertive in a highly challenged home management position. Her gentle nature kept the home atmosphere always clear and clean for the enjoyment of all.

Surviving family include her daughter, Anita Gwenn Carlo-Atri and spouse, Sunny Atri of New Jersey; grandchildren include, Joseph R. Carlo II, Jon J. Carlo, Greg (Sybil) Simpson and Michelle Simpson.  She is also survived by great grandchildren, Vienna Carlo, Sicily Carlo, Austin McCullough and Shelby McCullough.  One great great grandson also survives, Angelo Carlo and numerous other great and great great grandchildren, to many to name.  She is also survived by one brother John M. Ford and spouse Gwendolyn, Greenwood, Florida.   She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Teddy L. Simpson, son-in-law, Joseph R. Carlo, two sisters, Grace Ford Locke and Ruth Lawrence and granddaughter, Kristina VanNatta. Georgia leaves this world fully confident of her life to follow and looks forward to the eternal gratification as she reunites with those whom she so dearly loved in this life and those to follow.

Visitation will take place from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Nettie Evans officiating.  Georgia will be laid to rest next to her husband George in the Galveston Cemetery.
