Gladys Sheetz Obituary

Gladys Noreen (Lowery) Sheetz, 79, passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord at 9:32pm on February 1, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born Jan 4, 1943, on Camp Crowder Army Base in Neosho, Missouri, to Raymond Stuart and Florence Marie (Batty) Lowery.  She married Steven Roy Sheetz, the boy from the back of the school bus, on April 13, 1963, at Burton United Methodist Church.

Gladys was a member of Galveston United Methodist Church for 55 years.  She enjoyed congregating with the United Methodist Women’s group, singing in the church choir, and teaching Sunday school.  Gladys also served others through her crafting, knitting, crochet, and embroidery.  Her way of saying “I love you” was by giving you a homemade afghan.  Gladys had such a green thumb and found joy in tending to her garden, flowers, and house plants.

Family was most important to Gladys.  She began genealogy searching in 1980 by talking with relatives, visiting libraries, and searching cemeteries.  As technology expanded, she continued to learn and connect.

Gladys is survived by her beloved husband; her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Rhonda Sheetz; and her daughter, Teresa Sheetz Brewer.  She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, Jason (Ashley) Sheetz, Breanna (Schuylar) Hostetler, Madison (Ramon) Hernandez, Dylan Stevens, Cloe Stevens, Marissa Brewer, Brandon Brewer, Spencer Stevens, and Elijah Sheetz.  She also leaves behind 3 precious great grandchildren, Ava Ellinger, Parker Sheetz, and Tiago Hernandez.

Gladys is survived by her many sisters; Doris Lowery, Connie (Mickey) Baker, Lorna (Rich) Holloway, Joyce Rasmussen, and Barbra (Mike) Hileman.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Galveston United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Russell officiating.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Galveston United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be made at murrayweaverfuneralhome.com.
