Glenda A. (Parrish) Secrest

Glenda Ann Secrest, 87, of Walton, was welcomed home to Heaven on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, 2022, from her home.  She was born December 29, 1934, in Beloit, Kansas to Glenn A. and Frona (Cooper) Parrish.  She married Joseph L. Secrest and together they were married over 50 years. 

Glenda retired from Lucent Technology (AT&T) with over 20 years’ service.  She was an award-winning artist who enjoyed painting with vivid colors and sharing her work with friends and family.   Her artwork can be seen hanging within the homes of many of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing piano and had a beautiful voice.  She and Joe enjoyed attending many local concerts and musicals, raising their grandchildren to love the same. She could often be found in the kitchen, passing down an old family recipe to one of her granddaughters, and was the heartbeat of every major family gathering.  She had a love for history and antiques and passed down many stories that have left her children and grandchildren able to appreciate old world beauty, just as she did. Glenda was deeply kindhearted and welcomed countless people into her home over the years.  She loved the Lord Jesus with all of her heart and shared her faith with all who knew her. Along with serving the Lord, her children, and “grands” were the great joy in her life.

Surviving family include her children, Kathy (Mike) Stow, Sandra Lee (Mark) Torkelson, Jon Eric (Glenda) Secrest, her grandchildren, Michael Corbin (Sarah) Stow, Tiffany Anne Stow, Amanda Christine Torkelson (Vernon) Bridgewater, Daniel Mark (Jami) Torkelson, Luke Nathanael Torkelson, Abigail Ruth Torkelson (Charles) Storm, Anna Merida Torkelson (Jordan) Lynch, Sarah Elizabeth Torkelson (Tyler) Gideon, Grace Kathryn Torkelson (Chris) Ponchot and Faith Lorene Torkelson., Evan Jon (Carly) Secrest, and Caitlyn Denise Secrest, She is also survived by 19 great grandchildren, Sawyer Stow, Fiona, Henry and Hugh Bridgewater, Vivianna, Aryella, Lucia, IraLynn, Elnora and Matthias Torkelson, Levi, Gideon, Miriam, and Moriah Storm, Joanna and Verity Lynch and Susan Ponchot, and Hays and Evie Secrest.  Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, and two brothers, Leslie Parrish and infant brother James Parrish.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Valley Fellowship Church with son-in-law, Pastor Mike Stow officiating.  Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. also at the church.   Burial will follow services at Deer Creek Cemetery near Onward, Indiana.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Valley Fellowship Church, 8892 E.
