Horace "Hoss" Ingram

February 4, 1938 ~ July 24, 2023 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Obituary

Horace “Hoss” Ingram, 85 of Peru, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday July 24, 2023. Horace was born in Nauvoo, Alabama on February 4, 1938, to the late William Frank and Mary Minerva (Concord) Ingram.

Hoss left Alabama and came to Indiana at the age of 15 to look for work. He found work as well as the love of his life. He married Judith A. (Skidmore) Ingram of Bunker Hill, on July 4, 1958, at the Mt. Zion Newlight Christian Church. She preceded him in death in 2019.

Horace loved to work and worked to serve the Lord. He worked for Chrysler from 1965 until his retirement in 1995. When not at the factory, he could be found helping neighbors with their home improvement projects, farming with his brother, or serving his church as a Deacon and Trustee.  Hoss took great pride in caring for the church building and the congregation, whether it was starting a children’s nursery program or just adding another coat of paint to the Sunday school classroom, Hoss loved to serve others. Horace always enjoyed listening, singing, and traveling to see southern gospel quartets, and bluegrass festivals.

Surviving family include two sons, Brent and wife Kathy (Snyder) Ingram of Peru and Kelly and wife Patty (Rethlake) Ingram of Bunker Hill. Surviving brothers Ralph (Irene) Ingram, Kokomo and Lonnie (Kay) Ingram, Nauvoo, AL .  Surviving grandchildren include Heidi (Joel) Hawkins, Greenwood; Levi (Margo Martin) Ingram, Kokomo; Kayla (Andrew) Johnstone, Nolensville, TN; Kristin (Austin) Rooks, Cookeville, TN; and John Brian Miller of Murfreesboro, TN. Surviving great grandchildren include Avalee, Ethan, and Elias Hawkins, Finley Savasta, Campbell Johnstone, Owen, and Colten Rooks, and Cooper Ingram. Step-great grandchildren, Michael (Morgan), Zachery (Skyler), Anthony (Chloe), Grace and Clare Springer. Horace is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Ingram, wife Judy Ingram; siblings, Ava Lee (Guy) Lawson, Elmer (Lucy) Ingram, Ruby (Pete) Keaton, Opal (Alton) Farley, Kenneth Ingram and a grandson, Caleb Ingram.
