Jack Laymon Obituary

Jack D Laymon, 89, of Walton, Indiana, went to  be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 31, 2024. He was born October 16, 1934 in South Bend, Indiana to Robert F. and Letha B. (Showley) Laymon. He married Doris Ann Fouts May 4th, 1969. She survives.

Jack earned his bachelor degree at Manhattan Bible College and his Masters in Radio and Television Communications at UCLA. He began his career preaching the gospel at the Christian Church in Washington, Kansas, then served as program director of the Kansas State University Student Union. He came home to Indiana  in 1965 to serve as Superintendent at Sangralea Valley Boys Home, his parents’ life work. Sangralea gave him many sons, and necessitated the development of his many talents including construction skills, farming, meat cutting, counseling, farm market management, fund-raising, traveling and booking agent  (for the Sangralads band), and many more. Growing 10 acres of strawberries at Sangralea and recognizing the statewide need for agricultural irrigation lead to his beginning Indiana Irrigation Company in 1976 which continues to serve growers in the Midwest and beyond. Jack was a Rotarian and a member of Valley Fellowship Church. In his semi-retirement, he enjoyed trips to Mexico where he built three houses, several businesses, and meaningful relationships in the Yucatan.

Surviving family include his wife Doris Laymon of Cass County; his children Kathy (Mike) Stow, Sandra (Mark) Torkelson , and Jennifer Guy, all of Cass County; his grandchildren,  Corey (Sarah) Stow, Tiffany Stow, Amy (Vernon) Bridgewater, Daniel (Jami) Torkelson, Luke Torkelson, Abigail (Charles) Storm, Anna (Jordan) Lynch, Sarah (Tyler) Gideon, Grace (Christopher) Ponchot, Faith Torkelson, Chloe Guy, Simon (Haylee) Guy, and Amelia Guy. He was blessed in his lifetime with 22 great grandchildren as well. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William and Richard, and one sister Donna Yates.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11am on August 24th at Valley Fellowship Church with a spaghetti dinner (Jack’s favorite!) following.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Valley Fellowship Church Building Fund in Jack’s memory.  Valley Fellowship Church was near and dear to Jack's heart. https://pushpay.com/g/vfellowshipchurch?src=hpp.  GOD BLESS...
