James Leon Zook, 86, of Converse, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2023, at Bloom of Kokomo. He was born March 14, 1936, in Peru, Indiana to Paul E. and Ruby B. (Myers) Zook.
Jim graduated from Eastern High School in Greentown and went to work for Fisher Body in Marion in Tool and Die. He retired with over 40 years’ service. He enjoyed restoring gas engines in his spare time and was a member of the TriState Gas Engine Club, the Marion Symphony Club, and the General Motors retiree’s group.
Surviving family include his two sons, Joe Zook and significant other, Teresa Mundell of Colfax; and Troy Zook, Gas City; he is also survived by 4 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings include John Zook, Janet Wiles and Joan Rife. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, James Zook Jr.; sister, Judy; brother-in-law, Larry Cook; niece, Julie Cook Wagner; brother-in-law, Bud Rife and sister-in-law, Marcia H. Zook. He is also preceded in death by wives, Naomi Ruth, Shirley and Marcia M.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Sean Cooper officiating. Visitation will take place from 12:00 noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Research in Jim’s memory.
