Jerry L Smith, 84, of Kokomo, formerly of Galveston, passed away at 1:07 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Northwoods Village Nursing Home in Kokomo. He was born March 22, 1940, in Kokomo to Omar Alonzo and Margaret Pearl (Merrill) Smith.
Jerry graduated from Northwestern High School and then joined the United States Army to serve his country. After returning from the service, he worked for Chrysler Transmission in Kokomo for many years. He was a member of UAW#685. He loved his home and enjoyed model railroading and tractors. He was especially close to his brother Wayne, who was always there to help Jerry in all of his endeavors.
Jerry is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Wayne Smith, William “Bill” Smith, Mary (Smith) Scott, Marjorie (Smith) Price and Arthur Dean Smith.
A special “Thank You” goes out to Northwoods Village for their care of Jerry the past few years.
Graveside services will be held at North Union Cemetery on September 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Davis officiating. All are welcome to attend. No public visitation is planned.
