Joe Norris Obituary

Joe R. Norris, 86, of Galveston, passed away early Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at his home.  He was born September 7, 1936, in Albany, Kentucky to the late Bennie H. and Hattie C. (Stockton) Norris.   He married the love of his life, Anita Lou Brummett on April 5, 1957, in New Castle, Indiana.  Anita preceded him in death one year ago on February 1, 2022.  They had 64 wonderful years together.

Joe retired from Chrysler with 44 years’ service starting in skilled trade for 22 years and then moving into management for another 22 years.  He served his country in the Indiana Air National Reserve’s.   He also served with Howard County Civil Defense for many years.  Joe was very mechanically inclined.  There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  Joe never missed a sporting event for his grandchildren if he could help it.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying as a private pilot and building computers when DOS was the first operating system.  He taught himself how to program those early computers before we knew anything about Windows.  He was also very fond of his beloved dogs.

Surviving family include his children, Kathy (Norris) and husband Brett Dauenhauer; Kristy (Norris) and husband Mark Miller; and Jerry Norris.  His grandchildren include, Erika (Brady) Sorrells, Emily (Derrick) Aaron, Devin Miller, Meagan (Matt) O’Donnell, and Tiffany Miller.  He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Waylon and Cameron Aaron, Griffin and Vivian Sorrells, Hudson, Aiden and Noah O’Donnell.  He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Phil) Boone and sister-in-law, Karel Brummett and two nephews Kirk and Jeff Brummett.  Joe is preceded in death by his parents, wife Anita, brother-in-law, Paul Brummett and two nieces Tammy and Sherry.
