Mary K. (VerBryck) Longfellow

Obituary

Mary K. Longfellow of Kokomo passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday July 15, 2023, at St. Vincent Kokomo. Mary was born to the late Norris L. and Florence M. (Barker) VerBryck, on October 14, 1939, in Galveston, IN. She married Marion “Bud” Longfellow on September 5, 1958, in Galveston, IN. He precedes her in death.

Mary worked for a brief period at LaMode department store in Kokomo, but her main occupation was as a homemaker, wife and mother. Her hobbies included crocheting, making jewelry and other crafts, as well as reading. Mary also had a special place in her heart for dogs and in her later years developed a beautiful friendship with her son’s dog Brutis.

Mary’s surviving family include her son Bradley Longfellow and his girlfriend Patty of Kokomo, and daughter Letitia (Mark) Ward, of Logansport. Three grandchildren, Amburr, Alesha, and Megan, four grandchildren, Macayle, Hayden, Maximus, and Olivia Grace.  Mary also leaves behind a sister Carlis McCawley of Kokomo. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Carla, sister Margaret Miller, and two brothers, Howard and Harold VerBryck.

A Memorial Celebration of Mary’s life will take place on Wednesday August 2, 2023, at the Galveston First Baptist Church, Pastor Sean Cooper officiating. Family invites friends to visit from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm with the Memorial to follow.  Burial of ashes will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Galveston Cemetery.  Murray-Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston has been entrusted with arrangements.
