Michael A. Mims

Michael A. Mims, 76, of Kokomo, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday morning, June 9, 2026, at Community Howard Regional Health Hospital in Kokomo.  He was born March 18, 1950, in Sikeston, Missouri to Alfred L. and Janotra P. (Stephens) Mims.  He married the love of his life, Nora “Teet” Jones on April 23, 1973, in Kokomo and she survives.

Mike retired from Chrysler with 36 years of service. He was a member of the UAW local #1166, the Howard Masonic Lodge F&AM #93 in Kokomo and just earned his 50-year pin.  He was also a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and was an avid golfer.

Today has been one of the hardest days of my life. We had to say goodbye to our Dad. I miss him already! His teddy bear heart and since of humor are just parts of him I will find hard to miss but more than anything, I will miss his unconditional love and his moral compass. My Poggie was a man of many hats—quite literally—but the hat he wore best was that of a family man. To his grandchildren, he was the grandpa with huge hands and an even bigger heart. He loved to tease, could always make us laugh, and never passed up an opportunity for a card game or family board game.

One of my favorites to play with him was Fill or Bust, and true to his nature, he never knew when to quit. He just kept the dice rolling, always believing the next turn might be the lucky one. Looking back, I suppose he taught us something much more important than how to play a game—he taught us not to give up, to enjoy the time spent together, and to keep rolling through life with a smile and a little hope.

He was deeply loved, will be dearly missed, and his laughter, stories, and playful spirit will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know him. Emily

Mike was a vital piece of the Mims family puzzle, forever cherished and deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched.

Mike’s family would like to add a special request, please wear golf or casual attire to visitation and his funeral to remember his love of golf.

Surviving family include his wife Nora “Teet” of Kokomo, his children, Tami Lytle (Tom Barton), Missy (Dennis) Jackson, Tina (Jerry) Hurlock and Michael (Melody) Mims II.  His grandchildren include, Katelyn (Austin) Allen, Emily (Ricky) Spencer, Dustin (Brooke) Lytle, Kayla (Bojack) Dowdy, Lyndsi “Loulou” Jackson, Alex (Ashley) Mims, Skylar (Maranda) Bagwell, Kaly Griggs, Ramsie (Jason) Smith and his grand dog Jedi. He is also survived by 21 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, his sister, Mary (Odell) Gaddis and special friends Gary Allen, Gary “Superman” Roberts and Pat Cooper.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth (Mims) Brankle and brothers, Arnold and Frank Mims.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 12th, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston, and from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church on Saturday.  Masonic Rites will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13th at Brookside Free Methodist Church, 190 400 S.
