Patricia "Patty" (Smith) Young

Patricia “Patty” Young, 88, of Galveston, passed away at her home at 7:52 p.m. Monday evening, May 22, 2023.   She was born September 18, 1934, in Kokomo to Earl and Mary (Stafford) Smith.   She married David Young Sr. on December 23, 1950.  David preceded her in death on January 12, 2017.

Patty retired from Marsh Grocery with many years’ service.  She enjoyed trail riding with her husband and were members of the Salamonie Trail Riders group and the Diamond X Trail Riders.  She was also a member of the Center Road Church of Christ and the Golden Agers group.  She was a huge NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching Jeff Gordon and Kyle Larson race.  She loved spending time with her family, camping and traveling.

Surviving family include her children, David (Dee) Young; Linda Wecht, and Bill (Kathy) Young.  Six grandchildren, Jennifer Allison, Brad (Marlayna) Young, Lee (Brian Taylor) Young, Matt (Lauren) Young, Mark (Hollie) Young and Randi Wecht.  Great grandchildren, Casie, Hailey, Jace, Charles, Garrett, Caroline, Caleb, Keyerstyn, Hadley, Landon, Connor, Clark, Carson, Carter, Aiden and Gavin, and two great great grandchildren, Kimber and Colt Young, and one more on the way.  Patty is preceded in death by her parents, husband David, grandson Perry, son-in-law, Charlie Wecht and sisters, Lillian Chaplin, Vivian Grunden and Mildred Ridins.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Lynn Brust officiating.   Patty will be laid to rest next to her husband in Galveston Cemetery.    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Galveston Vol. Fire Dept. in Patty’s memory.
