April 30, 1935 ~ March 8, 2023 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Richard Sopher Obituary

Richard Lee Sopher, 87, of Kokomo, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 8, 2023, with his family by his side.  He was born April 30, 1935, in Peru, Indiana to Ezra and Nellie (Carr) Sopher. 

 Dad was a gentle and kind man that was devoted to his wife and children.  He was involved and deeply loved by all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the family will always cherish fond memories of time spent with him.     

Surviving family include his beloved wife Frances and his children, Gary (Drama) Sopher of Carmel; Donna (Dave) McReynolds of Bunker Hill; Debbie Name of Kokomo; Craig (Mark) Morrow of Franklin, TN; Donald (Angela) Sopher of Kokomo; Ronald Sopher of Clinton, TN; and Janice Sopher of Brownstown, IN.   Dad was also always devoted to his grandchildren, Jeremy, Alisa, Max, Mariah, Amanda, Terra, Katie, Ashley, Stephanie, Megan, and Andrew.  He was the proud great-grandfather of twenty six children; with one deceased.

 Dad’s cheerful personality and love of people allowed him to attract many friends throughout his life.  He had many interests during his life including bee keeping, gardening, and woodworking.  He worked as a farm hand for many years and developed a deep love of animals throughout his life.  

 Richard is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jim, Bob and Ted Sopher and one sister, Juanita Sopher.  Memorial contributions may be given to Parkinson’s’ Research, PO Box 61420, Staten Island, NY. 10306 in Richard’s memory.

 The family would like to extend a special thank you to all his caregivers at Northwoods Village Health Center for the loving care and friendship they provided during his stay at the facility.

Memorial services and visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30th from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston. Pastor Ronnie Bumgarner will  officiate  services at 5:00 p.m.
