Roger L. Kunkle, 75, of Galveston, passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Roger was born March 20, 1950, in Peru, Indiana to Ellis and Nancy (Hinkle) Kunkle. He married Rose A. Hart on April 8, 1978, at the Onward Christian Church in Onward, Indiana and she recently preceded him in death, November 24, 2025.
Roger was a lifelong farmer still living and working on the same family farm he grew up on. He never met a stranger and could talk with anyone. He was a wonderful neighbor to all who surrounded him, helping grade everyone’s driveway come spring. He graduated from Lewis Cass High School in 1968 and later attended ITT Tech. He served the Onward and Walton communities on both Volunteer fire departments for 20 plus years. Roger was also a member of the Lions Club. At one time, he even served on the animal control board for Cass County. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking - especially working with cherry wood. Roger and Rose were both active members of the Onward Christian Church.
Surviving family include his children, Ryan (Kerstyn) Kunkle of Galveston and Jennifer (Brett) McCarter of Peru. He was also Papaw to Jackson, Charlee and Christopher. Roger is also survived by one sister, Donna (Bill) Percy, brother-in-law, Steve Braden, several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends that were like family to him. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Janet and Rita and brother in law Bill Lyzen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Onward Christian Church with Pastor Dale Holzbauer officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, March 23rd from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Onward Christian Church in Roger’s memory.
Murray Weaver Funeral Home is honored to serve the Kunkle family.
