Scott Netzley Obituary

Scott Alan Netzley, 71, went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ on March 19, 2023, at 3:09 p.m.  He was born on September 21, 1951 in Greenville, Ohio to Ned and Alma (Victor) Netzley.  He married Cheryl Coston on September 27, 1985.  Cheryl preceded him in death on July 11, 2020.

 

Scott graduated from Milton-Union High School in Ohio in 1971 and attended Ivy Tech State College.  He served in the United States Army from 1971-1973 specializing in Sharpshooting and Hand Grenades.  He received his honorary discharge from the Army in October 1973 and continued to serve his Country for decades by serving in the Army National Guard, as a volunteer firefighter and also retired as a CO for the Miami Correctional Facility.  He loved gardening and working outdoors with his hands.  He had a love for guns and motorcycles and enjoyed fishing.  His favorite teams were the Indianapolis Colts and Ohio State.  Scott enjoyed all the animals he had over the years and spending time with his grandkids. 

 

Surviving family include his children, Brandi (Jay) Bowman and Adam (Sarah) Netzley.  His grandchildren are: Kyndall, Kobe and Karsyn Bowman; Hailey, Zach and Trenton Netzley; Shelby Isaac and Wyatt Riddell.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law- James Coston, sister-in-law- Katherine Crawford, niece- Sandy Netzley and others.  Also a few special friends over the difficult last few years: Pastor Norm Snyder and Scott's church family at Bennetts Switch Community Church, Tammy Gierhart, and John Maynard.  Scott is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, wife Cheryl, infant daughter Julie, brother Shelton Netzley, brother-in-law Ronald Coston and a special friend from the service, Kurt Keller.

 

To honor Scott's life, a small memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday May 6th at Bennetts Switch Community Church: 2261 West State Road 18 Kokomo, IN 46901. Special thanks to Murray Weaver Funeral Home for the preparations and arrangements.  As an expression of sympathy, Flowers are welcome; succulents and low maintenance houseplants are preferred, as these will be distributed to Scott's grandchildren as keepsakes, following the service.
