Tim Bookmiller Obituary

Tim J. Bookmiller, 73, of Kokomo, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, in Sebring, FL.   He was born July 23, 1949, in Frankfort, IN to Clarence E. and Callie L. (Scott) Bookmiller Jr.

He married Cynthia J. Phillips on Nov. 15, 1974, in Kokomo.  Cindy preceded him in death on October 27, 2009.  He later married Marilyn Halmage on August 4, 2016, in Kokomo and she survives.

 

Tim was a graduate of Lewis Cass High School and went to work for Delco Electronics in skilled trade.  He retired from Delco in 2003.  Tim’s true passion was sprint car racing.  He was truly a rare breed, racing, building, and repairing sprint cars.  Tim was personally responsible for many of the cars that circled Lipkey’s Kokomo Speedway for many years and was the owner of Bookmiller Racing Enterprises.  Tim proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam.  Tim’s memberships included the Galveston Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and the Moose.

 

Surviving family include his wife Marilyn, his children, Shannon (Derrick)  Bookmiller Wilson, Jill Williams and Tony Richards.  Surviving grandchildren include, Toni Wilson, Ashley Richards, Casey Williams and one great-grandchild, Viola Williams.  He is also survived by siblings, Janice K. (Glenn Prehn) Bookmiller Robertson; Janae (Raymond) Bookmiller Alberts and twin brother, Tom K. (Linda) Bookmiller.  Several nieces and nephews also survive him.  He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Cindy, and brother-in-law, Larry Robertson.

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 2 – 6 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with masonic rites at 5:30 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Cole Maxwell officiating.  Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Cass County Honor Guard.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
