Oral "Frank" Franklin Mims

December 22, 1948 ~ December 16, 2016 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Oral Franklin “Frank” Mims, 67, of Galveston went home to be with Jesus for some amazing fishing at 10:40 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at his home.   He was born December 22, 1948 in Catren, MO to Alfred Lee and Janotra Pearl (Stephens) Mims.   He married Leona Martin on July 24, 1971 in Kokomo and she survives.  Frank retired from Chysler in 1986 with fifteen years service as a job setter.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Kokomo, U.A.W. Local #685 and was a volunteer for C.A.M. (Coordinated Assistance Ministries) in Kokomo.   He enjoyed working with stained glass.  He was also an avid fisherman and hunter.  He was very involved with the TIPWA little league in Walton for many years serving in several capacities with the ball club.  He enjoyed playing Santa at Christmas time and was an avid Cub’s fan.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Mims of Galveston; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy (Joseph) Lyon of Fishers and son and daughter-in-law, Andrew (Ashley) Mims of Peru; grandchildren, Amanda (Taylor) Chitwood of Anderson; Caleb, Jayden and Carly Lyon of Fishers; Blake (Shelby) Hill of Frankfort; Trevor Hill, Peru; and Kyaleigh Mims of Peru.  He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Wyatt and Liam Chitwood of Anderson; siblings, Mike (Nora) Mims of Kokomo and Mary (Odell) Gaddis of Gainesville, GA; nieces and nephews and special friends, Greg Parrish and family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Arnold Mims and a sister Naomi Ruth Brankle.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21st Calvary Baptist Church, 1967 W. Boulevard Street in Kokomo with Rev. Jeff Sexton and Rev. Frank Gribble officiating.  Burial will follow at Crown Point Cemetery in Kokomo.  Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 pm. Tuesday evening at Calvary Baptist Church.  Memorial contributions may be given in Frank’s honor to Calvary Baptist Church or Kindred Hospice.  A special Thank-You goes out to his hospice caregivers, Mallory, Terrie and Kathy for their wonderful care of Frank.   Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston are assisting his family with arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
